It stands as a guardian, protecting your belongings and providing a sense of security. But in times of extreme weather, is it truly prepared to withstand the forces of nature?

In this article, we will explore the importance of garage door reinforcement for storms. We will guide you through assessing the weaknesses in your current setup and provide practical steps to fortify its defenses. From installing reinforcement brackets and struts to upgrading to impact-resistant doors, we will equip you with the knowledge needed to safeguard your garage against even the most ferocious storms.

Don’t leave your garage door vulnerable when nature’s wrath comes knocking. Join us on this journey as we uncover the secrets to maintaining a secure sanctuary amidst turbulent times.

Key Takeaways

  • Assess the vulnerabilities of your garage door by checking for signs of damage or wear such as cracks, dents, or loose panels.
  • Install reinforcement brackets and struts to reinforce weak spots and enhance the strength and stability of your garage door during high winds or impacts.
  • Consider upgrading to impact-resistant garage doors that are designed to withstand strong winds, debris, and hurricanes, providing increased safety, protection, and cost savings on repairs.
  • Secure your garage door with hurricane-rated hardware such as heavy-duty locks, alternative lock options like deadbolts or keyless entry systems, and wind-resistant brackets and hinges to prevent structural damage and deter intruders.

Assess the Vulnerabilities of Your Garage Door

Assess the vulnerabilities of your garage door by looking for any signs of damage or wear, such as cracks, dents, or loose panels. Reinforcing weak spots is crucial in preventing potential damage during a storm. Consider adding reinforcement brackets and struts to improve the overall strength of your garage door. These brackets and struts provide extra support and stability, making your door more resistant to high winds and impacts. By reinforcing these weak areas, you can greatly reduce the risk of costly repairs or replacements after a storm hits.

Now let’s move on to installing reinforcement brackets and struts for added protection.

Install Reinforcement Brackets and Struts

During a tempestuous storm, it’s crucial to fortify your entrance with sturdy brackets and struts, akin to the steadfast limbs of a mighty oak tree. To install reinforcement brackets, follow these steps:

  1. Measure the height of your garage door opening.
  2. Attach the brackets to the vertical tracks on either side of the door using strong screws or bolts.
  3. Ensure they are securely fastened to provide maximum support.

Next, install struts horizontally across the top section of your garage door panels. These struts will add extra strength and stability during high winds or heavy impacts.

By reinforcing your garage door with these brackets and struts, you can significantly reduce the risk of damage caused by storms.

Once this installation is complete, you’ll be ready to move on to the next section about upgrading to impact-resistant garage doors for added protection against severe weather conditions.

Upgrade to Impact-Resistant Garage Doors

Upgrade your defense against Mother Nature by installing impact-resistant garage doors. These heavy-duty doors are designed to withstand strong winds, flying debris, and even hurricanes, giving you peace of mind during severe weather. Not only do these doors increase the safety and protection of your home, but they can also save you money on repair costs caused by storm damage. While there may be an upfront investment involved, the long-term cost effectiveness becomes evident as these durable doors significantly reduce the need for repairs or replacements after each storm. Now, let’s discuss how you can further secure your garage door with hurricane-rated hardware.

Secure Your Garage Door with Hurricane-Rated Hardware

To secure your garage door during a hurricane, you should install heavy-duty locks and latches. These will provide added strength and prevent the door from being forced open by strong winds.

Additionally, using wind-resistant brackets and hinges will further reinforce the structure of the door, ensuring it stays in place even in severe weather conditions.

Install heavy-duty locks and latches

Installing heavy-duty locks and latches is like fortifying your garage door with an impenetrable shield. By choosing alternative lock options such as deadbolts or keyless entry systems, you provide added security during storms.

The benefits of reinforced latches are numerous. They can withstand high winds, prevent structural damage, and deter potential intruders. With these heavy-duty locks and latches in place, you can have peace of mind knowing that your garage door is well-protected against any storm that comes its way.

To further enhance the strength of your garage door, it is also essential to use wind-resistant brackets and hinges. These components work together with the locks and latches to create a comprehensive defense system against severe weather conditions.

Use wind-resistant brackets and hinges

Now that you’ve installed heavy-duty locks and latches on your garage door, it’s time to take it a step further and reinforce it with wind-resistant brackets and storm-proof hinges.

These specialized brackets are designed to withstand strong winds, providing added stability and preventing the door from being blown off its tracks during a storm. The same goes for the hinges, which are built to withstand high winds and extreme weather conditions.

By using wind-resistant brackets and storm-proof hinges, you can significantly enhance the overall strength of your garage door against powerful storms.

But reinforcing your garage door is only the first step in ensuring its durability. To maintain its resilience, regular maintenance and inspections are crucial. These routine checks will help identify any potential issues or weaknesses in your garage door system before they become major problems.

So let’s move on to the next section and learn how to properly maintain your reinforced garage door without compromising its integrity.

Maintain Regular Garage Door Maintenance and Inspections

To keep your garage door in good working condition, it’s important to schedule regular maintenance and inspections. By doing so, you can catch any potential issues before they become major problems.

Hiring a professional to inspect your garage door will ensure that all components are functioning properly and that any necessary repairs or adjustments are made promptly.

Keep your garage door in good working condition

Make sure you’re regularly maintaining your garage door to ensure it’s in proper working condition. Following a garage door maintenance checklist can help you identify and address common garage door problems before they become major issues.

Start by inspecting the tracks, rollers, and hinges for any signs of wear or damage. Lubricate moving parts like springs and cables to keep them operating smoothly. Check the weatherstripping to make sure it is sealing properly and replace if necessary.

Test the balance of the door by disconnecting the opener and manually opening and closing it halfway – it should stay in place. Lastly, check the auto-reverse safety feature by placing an object in the path of the closing door – it should reverse immediately upon contact.

By performing regular maintenance, you can prevent potential problems from occurring and keep your garage door functioning optimally.

Now, let’s move on to scheduling professional inspections to catch any potential issues without delay.

Schedule professional inspections to catch any potential issues

Scheduling professional inspections is like having a trusted mechanic check under the hood of your car – it gives you peace of mind knowing any potential issues will be caught early.

When it comes to your garage door, regular inspections are crucial for its proper functioning and durability, especially in preparation for storms. Professional inspectors have the expertise to identify signs of potential issues that may go unnoticed by an untrained eye. They can detect problems such as worn-out springs, loose cables, misaligned tracks, or damaged panels.

By catching these issues early on, you can avoid costly repairs or even complete garage door replacement down the line. Additionally, regular inspections ensure that your garage door operates smoothly and safely during storms, providing you with the security and protection you need.

So don’t overlook the importance of professional inspections for your garage door’s longevity and reliability.

Conclusion

To ensure your garage door is prepared for any storm, it’s crucial to reinforce it properly. By installing reinforcement brackets and struts, upgrading to impact-resistant doors, and securing with hurricane-rated hardware, you’ll fortify your garage against the forces of nature.

Regular maintenance and inspections are also key in maintaining a strong and resilient door. Don’t let storms catch you off guard; strengthen your garage door like a fortress, protecting what matters most.

The service and the work that was done was exceptional. We needed to replace three very old (and very heavy) garage doors in a home that was built in 1960. There were a number of challenges along the way and each one was met professionally and in a timely manner. Lisa was an excellent communicator and highly responsive. Kevin did an extraordinary job with a fairly involved installation. His 'can do' attitude was very refreshing and reassuring. As noted, the final result was terrific. The pricing was VERY reasonable and very fair. The install was completed two days ago and I have already received compliments from the neighbors!

On Oct. 31 my electric gate stopped working and I called Alpha Gate and Door and talked to Lisa. She was great and based on my symptoms said she thought it was the battery and she would send Kealan out the next day. He came and replaced the battery with a 12 v 55ah battery. I asked him to rehang my reflector light on my neighbors new fence so the motion sensor would work. It had worked fine prior to that being taken down. He did that and it worked for a minute and then stopped. He rewired it and it worked once and he left. The next day I noticed the sensor was not working but I didn’t really care because my dog is too small to trigger it. I was charged $448 -$169 for the service call, $249 for the battery and $30 to rewire the sensor. I work exclusively from home as an attorney and never even use the gate during the week. A few weeks later the gate stopped operation completely and I called on Dec. 6. Lisa said she would send Kealan out. He called me and I said the gate would not open at all, the sensor was not working and the sensor was making a nonstop buzzing noise. He arrived fairly late in the day and I saw him pull into my driveway but he did not come to my door and went straight to the gate. I immediately went out there and I saw when he opened the cover that the battery charger lights were not on. He was in a very bad mood and starting ripping the battery out and said I needed a new battery. I said I guess it was because the battery charger wasn’t plugged in. I was not mad about it because that can happen to anyone. He got really mad at that point, I guess because I knew what had happened. He demanded to know whether I had unplugged it, grabbed a huge battery that would not even fit in my unit, then declared the charger had “allegedly” not been plugged in. As he was trying to force the battery in and was slamming everything around, I asked him if he had a smaller battery. He said no, it was whomever installed my gate opener’s fault because the antenna was on the left and they were usually on the right. He continued to try to force it but could not get the cover on. So he gave up and said he would come back Monday with a smaller battery. I assumed the sensor was not working because the battery had died. I heard nothing from anyone the following Monday and had had it so I called Lisa and yelled and told her the way Kealan had behaved and when was the battery actually going to be installed. She said she would talk to Kealan and I said do you have anybody else who is not a jackass who could come instead. She said she would investigate and call me back. She never called me back and apparently the next day around lunch Kealan snuck onto my property, did not tell me he was there, and put in another battery and texted me the gate was now working. I went outside to try it and the remote was not working at all. I have programmed remotes many times (I have done a lot of products liability work and handled cases with complex machinery failures and deposed a lot of engineers so I am not unfamiliar with this type of equipment) and checked it and the receiver was getting the signal from the transmitter but the control board was not opening the gate.So I called Lisa, explained he had come but not told me he was there, and that the remote was not opening the gate. I also apologized for yelling at her the day before because it was not her fault. She said she would tell him. After that call I remembered there is a reset button on the Patriot control board so I went out and pushed it and that caused the remote to work so I called Lisa and said it was working. The new battery is smaller than the one he had originally put in and retails for about $95. The motion sensor still does not work, I have done jumping jacks in front of of it to know avail. I am not bothering to call again about that because Kealan would probably get really mad again. He does NOT like his competence put into question. You decide if $249 is a fair markup on a $95 battery.

I highly recommend Alpha Gate & Door Company! The entire process was incredibly quick and professional! I spoke with Lisa (she’s amazing and extremely knowledgeable) on Tuesday and she came out Wednesday with a recommendation to replace the gate opener that was faulty and couldn’t handle the weight of my gate. I received the reasonable quote the same day and their technician, Keelan, was at my house on Friday of the SAME WEEK to install. Keelan was just as courteous and professional as Lisa and did an amazing job! The install was perfect and pristine! I’ve tried working with other companies and honestly they are hands down the best! If there were 10 stars available, I would give them 10!
Thank you Alpha team!

Alpha Gate & Door recently replaced our 3-gate system thats used by over 250 residents and visitors on a daily basis.

Terry was excellent in guiding us from the first visit to the final inspection, including his experiences on what to expect and where any likely issues would occur. With a large property, that was critical to avoiding problems that could pop up.

The crews, clean up and invoicing were all done professionally.

We would strongly recommend Alpha Gate & Door for your gate access needs.

Once I sent over the pictures, I got another call around 1200, asking if they could come by today as a crew was finished early and could swing by to fix. The gate was fixed by 3:00 same day.
